A badly decayed or damaged tooth can cause a number of complications. Sometimes the damage or decay can be so extensive that our Truman Village Family Dental team recommends that the tooth is extracted before we restore it with a dental bridge.

It will take a little while for your gums to completely heal after extraction. Once they are healed, your dentist, Dr. Mark Jensen, can start the process of replacing the lost tooth with a dental bridge in Independence, Missouri.

A dental bridge mimics the appearance of a natural tooth. It is fused to a pair of dental crowns, and the crowns are anchored to the two neighboring teeth that lie on both sides of the gap in your mouth.

The dentist will shape the anchoring teeth by removing the majority of the enamel layer. A small amount of enamel is left to protect the healthy interior of each tooth.

At the end of this appointment, your Truman Village Family Dental dental team will form an impression of each anchoring tooth and any other relevant teeth. This impression we be sent to the professional dental lab where your permanent bridge will be made. Temporary crowns are then secured over each anchoring tooth to protect them while the lab works on your permanent bridge.

Later, we will call you back into our office once the dental lab has completed your bridge. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented securely in place.

If you have a troublesome tooth that’s compromising the function or appearance of your mouth, you should call Truman Village Family Dental at 816-569-9800 today to have the problem addressed.
